What is Dry Eye?

Dry eye is a condition that causes your eyes to not produce enough tears. Since they aren't creating enough natural lubricant, this can cause your eyes to frequently feel gritty and uncomfortable. The condition can contribute to eye strain, make your eyes feel tired, and create severe discomfort. You may also be at risk for corneal abrasions due to the lack of lubrication.

How Does the TearCare Treatment Work?

TearCare treatment is an in-office procedure that is completed in 15 minutes and uses sterile, single-use eyelid devices to melt meibum with low heat. As a treatment for meibomian gland disorders, it only needs to be repeated yearly or every two years. In between treatments, other medications may be prescribed to help with any discomfort. If you have meibomian gland dysfunction and don’t receive treatment, the condition can get worse over time.

What Should You Ask Our Optometrists?

Before you decide on this procedure, ask our optometrists about any possible side effects, which medications and alternate options are available, and whether this could affect any other eye conditions you may currently have. Being informed about treatments and choosing the ideal ones are important for your eye health and our optometrists can recommend the treatment that is best suitable for your condition.

Is Everyone a Candidate for TearCare?

Not everyone is a candidate for TearCare treatment, as it’s designed specifically to treat meibomian gland disorders. If the cause for your dry eye is another condition or disease that could be affected by the procedure, our optometrists will work closely with you and discuss your options. However, TearCare is typically safe and effective.
